The 14th General Assembly

The 14th General Assembly of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Members and the 9th General Assembly of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Members opened on June 23, 2008 in Beijing. More than 1,100 CAS and CAE members attended the opening ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People.
Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee HU Jintao was present at the ceremony and delivered an important speech. The ceremony was chaired by CAE President XU Kuangdi.
The General Assembly concluded its biennial session on June 27, with the adoption of an amendment to the Bylaws for Members of CAS and the election of new leadership for the standing bodies of the CAS Academic Divisions (CASAD).
During the assembly, CASAD held its first session of the Academic Conference, and three CAS members were honored with the Kan Kah Kee Science Awards in 2008. CAS President Lu Yongxiang delivered a speech at the closing ceremony, which was chaired by Prof. Chen Yiyu, a member of the Executive Committee of the CASAD Presidium.
