ZOU Chenglu (TSOU Chenglu, 1923-2006), a CAS Member,a pioneer of biochemical research in China and a world-renowned scientist with the CAS Institute of Biophysics, died on Nov. 23 in Beijing.
Prof ZOU performed indelible scientific exploits by, for instance, making a major contribution to the total synthesis of insulin, creating Tsou's equation and Tsou's plot, establishing the theoretical framework for irreversible inhibition kinetics of enzyme activity, and proposing the flexibility of enzymes active sites.
Prof. ZOU had a lofty-minded personality and moral paragon. He resolutely defended the dignity of science and warded off the unhealthy tendencies in the scientific community. He took the initiative and enthusiastically offered constructive suggestions for the sound development of scientific and education undertakings in China.
Prof. ZOU was elected a CAS Member in 1980 and a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World in 1992. He served on the 5th to 8th National committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the national top advisory body, and also its 8th standing committee.
